LET THE MAN BE THE MAN HE IS

I had a good chat with a friend about dads growing old. I assume we are all filial sons and daughters. When our dads grow older and older, maybe some will have retired from their careers by now. I wonder how many of us "love our dads" in the way that allows him to continue to be the man that he is. Dads who are now retired are dads from a different era. Most of our dads are the strong silent types, not like many of the younger dads nowadays who will try to be good friends with their kids.  A man of the house usually takes the lead in the household. He takes care of the paycheck. He calls the shots in many areas of the household matters. When they retire, they may not have access to as much "money as before" - gee, do you ever wonder why, thats because he has brought you guys up, send you guys to further your studies, even finance your first car or even your first home, down payment for this and that. Flying you back from overseas, etc...  Now he

MASJID KAMPUNG LAUT

SANAM MARVI -SIGHRA AAWEEN SAANWAL YAAR

Title:  Sighra Aaween - سگھڑا آويں – Come Swiftly Language:  Punjabi, Siraiki Poetry:  Sachal Sarmast (1739-1826) and Sultan Bahu (c.1628-1691) Sassi roams the blistering desert in desperate search of Sanwal, her beloved Punnun. His beautiful image has taken root in her heart, pervading all her senses. A Quranic verse states, "There remaineth but the Countenance of thy Lord of Might and Glory". Sassi's frenzied quest for union is an allegory for the call of the human soul to reunite with the Divine Source. The poet knows that love and the torment of separation is a universal experience; his pain is still acute and particular. الف الا چمبے دي بوٹي مرشد من وچ لائي ہُو alaf ala chambe di boo?i murshid man wich laai hu alif, the first letter of God's name, is a jasmine flower that the Guide has planted in my heart – He! نفي اثبات دا پاني مليو ہر رگے ہر جائي ہُو nafi asbaat da paani milyo har rage har jaai hu watered with negation and affirmation (no

THE COUNTRY IN MY BLOOD

2 February 2012 Alvin Teoh, Executive Creative Director of NagaDDB , shares with us a Malaysia we can hopefully still remember in the years to come. I love Malaysia. I mean, I could do with some nice, cool San Francisco weather sometimes, but yeah, I love this lady because she’s such a part of me. Recently, I joined an international community of Catholics on the net. I thought it’d be cool to exchange views of our universal faith with people from all over the world. (Having the occasional fight online is exciting, too). But one thing about the community stood out. Amazing and learned as some of them were, I did find some of their points of view a tad narrow. Not so much because of the faith, but more so, I feel, because of their monolithic culture. Quite unlike our rojak one, hor ? Over the years, I am blessed to have met Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Sikhs, Protestants, Agnostics, Malays, Chinese, Indians, Eurasians, ‘Bananas’, ‘Chindians’, ‘Mat-Salleh Celups’, ‘R

STEPHEN HAWKING : WOMEN ARE A MYSTERY

Image
LONDON (Reuters) Fri, Jan 6, 2012 - The biggest mystery in the universe perplexing one of the world's best known scientists is -- women. When New Scientist magazine asked "Brief History of Time" author Stephen Hawking what he thinks about most, the Cambridge University professor renowned for unravelling some of the most complex questions in modern physics answered: "Women. They are a complete mystery." The wheelchair-bound Hawking, who only recently retired from a post once held by Isaac Newton, talked to the magazine in the run-up to celebrations for his 70th birthday about his biggest scientific blunder and his hopes for modern science. Hawking is due to celebrate his 70th birthday on Sunday with a public symposium entitled "The State of the Universe" at the University of Cambridge's Centre for Theoretical Cosmology. Hawking heads a list of speakers including British Astronomer Royal Martin Rees, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Saul Perlmutter and
